Witness Blanket

Canadian Museum for Human Rights

Summary

The Witness Blanket is a large‐scale art installation made from hundreds of items reclaimed from survivors and their families, residential schools, churches, government buildings, and traditional and cultural structures across Canada.

The process of gathering these objects and their stories took artist Carey Newman and his team from coast to coast to coast. The documentary film Picking Up the Pieces: The Making of the Witness Blanket shares that journey. Join us for a film screening of Picking Up the Pieces and Childhood Denied, followed by a Q&A session with Director Carey Newman.
