Kandis Friesen, Untitled (These arms of mine), 2021. Courtesy the artist.
Kandis Friesen’s exhibition “These arms of mine” at the Künstlerhaus Bethanien in Berlin is grounded in the relations of the materiality of stone, memory, and power. Thinking through their distributed formations in the world around us – as in architectures, monuments or landscapes – the artist began this work with the Schwerbelastungskörper (german: Heavy Load-Bearing Body), a giant concrete column in the Tempelhof district of Berlin.
This project is part of the culture program related to Canada’s Guest of Honour presentation at the Frankfurt Book Fair 2020/21. It is supported by the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec, the ministry of International relations and Francophonie of Québec and the Québec Government Office in Berlin.
