Shy, scatterbrained Polly Vandersma drifts from one temp job to another. She records her life in photographs and film, and experiences fantastic visions– she even hears the mermaids singing! Polly relates the story of her latest job as a secretary in a Toronto art gallery. The ambitious owner of the gallery, Gabrielle, becomes involved in a relationship with Mary, a young artist, whom Polly admires greatly.– Patricia Rozema’s directorial debut is a cinematic “selfie” ahead of its time. (82 minutes)
