Details

Shy, scatterbrained Polly Vandersma drifts from one temp job to another. She records her life in photographs and film, and experiences fantastic visions – she even hears the mermaids singing! Polly relates the story of her latest job as a secretary in a Toronto art gallery. The ambitious owner of the gallery, Gabrielle, becomes involved in a relationship with Mary, a young artist, whom Polly admires greatly. Patricia Rozema’s directorial debut is a cinematic “selfie” ahead of its time.
