Writing the West Coast: Julie Flett talks about the approach she takes to tough subjects in her books.

Julie Flett, (three-time winner of the Christie Harris Award for Children’s Illustrated Literature) talks about her book “Birdsong” and how her career began, how she deals with intergenerational relationships, and how she addresses difficult topics in her work.

Julie Flett is a Cree-Metis author, illustrator and artist. She has received numerous awards including the Lieutenant Governor’s Award for Literary Excellence, the Governor General’s Award for Children’s Literature and the American Indian Library Association’s Best Picture Book Award.
